Watch D.O.G.S.

Many thanks to the new pack Brad Sturgill, David Harvey, Jessie Simmons and Janet Keehr for volunteering to support the Watchdogs program this year!

EE fathers, grandfathers, uncles or other father figures... we CHALLENGE YOU to volunteer at least ONE DAY at Edmonds Elementary during the 2011-2012 school year.

WATCH DOGS UPATE - October, 2011

Watch D.O.G.S. is a nation program with a stated objective to "Engage men, inspire children, reduce bullying and enhance the educational environment at your school.".

This is one of the most popular programs with the kids and provides an opportunity for Father and Father Figures to become directly involved with the students at Edmonds Elementary. Plus you get a really cool parking spot!

Any adult male figure in a childs life is welcome to join.  In the past we have had dads, uncles, grandpas, and family friends who are all great role models.  In order to sign up you need to have a completed Washington State Patrol form and your information sheet.  There will be order forms available to order shirts, hats and other Watch D.O.G.S. related items.  It is our goal to have at least one Watch D.O.G. on campus per school day.

Look for more information in the October 22nd newsletter...

What Is Watch D.O.G.S.?
WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is the safe school initiative of the National Center for Fathering that involves fathers and father figures to help create a more safe and secure learning environment in our nation's schools. To become a WatchDOG, Fathers / Father-figures can register online at:

WatchDOGS Care & Lunchtime Buddies Programs have been established.
These programs will involve W atchDOGS working with Principle Melisa Oliver, Teachers, and Marilyn Harris the School Counselor to regularly meet with students that are struggling / at risk / without father-figures / or in need of role models. The WatchDOGS Care volunteers will spend one hour a week with a group of students in the Orca Room, working on various projects under supervision of Marilyn Harris. Some special training for this volunteer work will be included
The Lunch Time Buddies program will allow WatchDOGS that have limited time to volunteer to spend time with students, eating lunch and interacting with students once a week.

Upcoming WatchDOGS Events:   Volunteers are needed to ensure these events run smoothly. Sign-up to be a volunteer on the new WatchDOGS Calendar coming soon.

WatchDOGS Gear:
The Dog Store now allows WatchDOGS to purchase gear online, and have items shipped directly them.  If you are a WatchDOG, we encourage you to purchase a hat or shirt (both if possible) to help indentify you as a WatchDOG when you are scheduled to volunteer at the school or at any EE school event. Visit this site for gear information and purchases http://www.fathers.com
